The tragic collision occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. near Czech Hall Road when officials say a driver traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-40 slammed head-on into another vehicle.

According to emergency responders, the impact of the crash was so severe that one of the vehicles burst into flames moments after the collision.
