Machai Tariq Brisbane Obituary Groton, CT Death: The Quaker Hill community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Machai Tariq Brisbane, who passed away on May 14, 2026, at the age of 16. A beloved son, brother, teammate, student, and friend, Machai’s passing has left family members, classmates, coaches, and loved ones devastated as they remember a young man whose strength, talent, and gentle spirit touched countless lives.
Born on August 3, 2009, to Mark Brisbane and Tabetha Hill-Brisbane, Machai attended Waterford High School and was part of the graduating Class of 2027. Throughout his life, Machai excelled both academically and athletically, earning recognition on the school Honor Roll while building an impressive reputation in football and wrestling.
Known affectionately by teammates as “Bows,” Machai proudly represented teams including the Nightmare Jr., New London Whalers, Norwich Wildcats, and the Waterford High School football program. One of his proudest achievements came when the New London Whalers advanced to nationals during the 2021 season. In wrestling, Machai quickly emerged as a fierce competitor, earning varsity honors and placements in respected tournaments such as the Lancer and Griswold competitions despite only wrestling for three years.
Beyond sports, Machai had a passion for music and participated in orchestra since fourth grade, mastering both the violin and viola while reaching second chair during high school. Friends and family remember him for his quiet strength, loving heart, and deep loyalty to those he cared about.
Machai is survived by his parents, siblings Markita, Marketa, Mark Jr., and Marquis Brisbane, along with grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many cherished friends.
Private funeral arrangements will be held by the family. A public celebration of life honoring Machai Tariq Brisbane will take place on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Elks Lodge 2163.
